Magoebaskloof

“And she stopped…and she heard what the trees said to her,

And she sat there for hours not wanting to leave,

For the forest said nothing,

it just let her breathe.”

Magoebaskloof is an absolute exquisite, micro-climatic gem that is situated in the northern region of Southern Africa.

The all too short weekend was a joyful experience for my soul, doing what I love most, connecting with nature. The vegetation here is so vastly different to any other place I have yet to see in the country.

I was rendered speechless and rooted still in the beautiful mossy forests. I was fully immersed in the one called Swartbos hiking trail, with its magic created by the many shades and hues of green. I noted the sensation of the cool humidity clinging to the atmosphere while walking underneath the branches clothed in hanging moss.

Nature truly is a medicine for the mind, especially for mine. It has a way of reminding me who I am as it re-aligns the thoughts, ensuring the quality of my happiness.

I took great child-like wonder and joy in crossing paths with Samango monkeys as they made their cheeky appearances. I appreciated the awareness in listening to the blissful, endless songs from the joyful birds. Then delighted in hearing bushbabies calling out in the night, reminding me to get out of bed and step out in the cold, so I didn’t miss the Blue Micro-moon.

These all add to my reasons why I love making the effort to travel, especially being among nature. As I gratefully collect pockets of memories, it momentarily soothes away the artificial sounds and landscape of the city.

The Debengeni waterfall is Magoebaskloof’s must-see natural feature. For me, it had an instant connection to my calmness as it gently captivated my senses. My gaze was transfixed on the effortless flow of water as it cascaded over the the slippery smooth rocks. I watched it journey downstream, gloriously twirling in the rock-pools before continuing on.

As stones were left unturned upon leaving Magoebaskloof, I am inspired to return and enjoy sharing this magical space once gain with others.

I’m always counting my blessings twice when it comes to the ability to travel and to experience such beauty. Travel’s wonders fulfills and enriches my heart as it continues to colour-in my dreamy soul.
