The Sudwala Caves are one of the oldest caves in the world. A one hour guided-tour offers an opportunity to explore all sorts of chambers in the depths underground. There are interesting formations to learn about like the “Samsons Pillar”. There are other formations actively in the making and it has taken hundreds of years for these formations to be noticeable. There is an amphitheater inside these caves called Miriam Makeba Hall and it’s still used for live concerts.
One of the fascinating things to see inside the Sudwala caves, are the roots dangling from the ceiling. These roots belong to the vegetation on the surface above – an exciting perspective to be so far underground.
